Throughout the years, we’ve worked with many companies to build their local brand presence, grow their business, and keep them relevant to their local communities. And nearly every time I meet someone new that’s looking to grow their brand, I’m asked the same question: how are you able to build sustainable growth through digital marketing for your clients, and how can I do that with *my* organization?

The answer for this question is the same for pretty much every industry across every digital tactic: it’s all about consistency – posting consistently, providing good value consistently, and being in front of the right people consistently. And that answer is either super frustrating, because it gives you literally nowhere to start, or super overwhelming, because your plate is full and it’s impossible for you to build that consistency on your own.

If it’s the former, then you need something more concrete to build a strong marketing foundation. If that’s the case, here’s where we recommend most of our clients start:

  1. Optimize your website for searchability. Yes, that’s SEO (search engine optimization). I don’t care if 15 other people have told you that SEO is obsolete or that you don’t need it. You do. And you need to work with someone who can help you optimize your site for LOCAL search. This is how you build credibility, bring local people to discover your brand, get conference organizers to find and invite you to speak, and help people find whatever it is you do.   2. Build your social media presence so that it’s relevant, branded and consistent. Again, industry doesn’t matter. EVERYONE is on social media. People vet you online. If they can’t find you, they’ll move onto the next brand. If you have the right strategy, you can find the right people, nurture your network, and convert people from window shoppers to buyers.
  3. Get writing. Whether you want to call it a blog, an article, or a post, content is king. Not only does content boost your searchability, it shows people that you know what you’re talking about. But today’s content is different than the content of 5 years ago: it should be personalized to your brand and your target audience. It should offer personality, not perfectionism. It should be something that people actually want to read, something they can’t find on 15 other sites out there. Your content needs to be unique in order to stand out and create a return for your brand.

If it’s consistency you struggle with, then it’s time to find some help. Consistency is literally the only way to build brand recognition, build momentum with your marketing strategy, and build traction with your target audience. That looks different depending on what you’re trying to do, but likely means at least 3-5 social posts per week and likely means at least 1-2 pieces of blog content per month.
