How To Manage Your Projects Like A Pro

How To Manage Your Projects Like A Pro

Going into the new year, your company is focused on goal setting. Your team has probably put their heads together to build out a strategic sales and marketing plan and formulated what projects to tackle in order to meet these goals. That’s the easy part! Oftentimes, implementing these plans is where we all jump on the struggle bus.

If you’re encountering difficulties carrying out those great tactics you outlined going into the new year, we have a few tips to help:

  1. Invest in a project management system: Without a project management system in place, it can be easy for your team to veer off course due to the lack of set guidelines on what should be accomplished by who and when. Precious time is wasted when team members don’t have a clear understanding of their objectives and expectations. This can affect one’s productivity. Your project management system should be something visual; something you can bring your whole team into. This will allow you to break down projects into step-by-step tasks, assign responsibility to the team, and check in on the status of your existing projects. Our favorite tool for this is asana (asana.com)!

  2. Be diligent about weekly check ins: Whether you’re a team of 50 or a team of 1, weekly check ins on each of your projects will help you re-calibrate and assess where you’re at, then course correct if needed. Block time on your calendar weekly to go through your sales and marketing projects in detail. Quarterly and yearly reviews are great and should be done, but they cannot solve unexpected roadblocks in projects that need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Additionally, one-on-one communication with your team members cuts down on the time wasting back and forth and lack of clarity that comes with email.

  3. Break your big goals down into smaller goals: We’re only going to say this once: stop focusing solely on the big picture. Having a clear vision of your overarching goals is important, but the ability to see JUST what needs to get done this week and this month will make implementing your annual plan less overwhelming and more FUN! Setting smaller goals on a weekly and/or monthly level will help you stay motivated and feel like you’re consistently accomplishing things. Pro tip: This is where the project management system will make your life a breeze!
